So you are wondering who is behind these blog posts? Do they know what it is like to look for work? Oh yes…I have plenty of experience with this!
For over a year I was looking for permanent work. Sure felt I had a lot to offer an employer – lots of experience, good disposition, great with people, strong work ethic…looks great on paper, but I soon realized that in this economy…so much more is expected as a prospective employee.
As the workplace dynamic changes as well as to what the employer is looking for, sometimes you start feeling more and more overwhelmed as to what you can offer an employer. You also start to wonder if the kind of work you have been looking for is what you really want to do? We inevitable start to ask the question…”Am I good enough?”
You need to know that indeed, you are good enough. The issue is, there is so much competition out there, and how to find the tools in order to land that job…
The new WorkBC site has amazing resources under the Jobs Tab, there is so much to offer like the the Job Search Tools page. This page has expansive resources for someone to look for work all on one page, including other job search sites other than WorkBC job search. There is even a section on how to write your resume, as well as interviewing tips.
There is also a page with BC Industry Association Job Boards…this is a great resource for anyone looking for work in a specific Industry, all on one page.
You can also create a job seeker profile which will give you alerts when posts matching your job description come up; or use the toolkit feature to save ideal job posts and make them easier to manage.
Last, but certainly not least, is the finding WorkBC Centres section. This is a great way to find a WorkBC Employment Centre that is closest to you, as well as find out if you are eligible.
All I can say is, it is so much easier that all of this information is under the Jobs tab on the WorkBC website and please look around at all of the resources the site has to offer.
Remember one more thing…you are not alone in this search, and with research and lots of perserverance…the job search will feel less frustrating.
Please stay tuned for further blog posts on different tips to get your foot in the door to get that job…
