Falling Through the Cracks – Are you at Risk?

June 6, 2012 1 Comments

One of the most common questions that are asked by job seekers is “What if I am not on Employment Insurance? Are there still programs for me to find work in BC?”

The answer is simple – yes indeed.

There are a number of programs to help anyone of any background or skill level get the tools needed to find employment.  All you need to do is find a program and contact the organization to obtain further information.

The most important thing is, you are not alone in this. There are so many specialized programs for persons who are not on EI that it is a great time to be looking for a program to further whatever area is required to strengthen your job prospects. What is even better is the fact that the WorkBC site has a great feature called the “B.C. Labour Market Programs Inventory” to help you find the right program.

At the top of Programs page there is a “Search Services” function, as well as the “Search Locations” function.  If you are looking to find out more information regarding learning a new trade for example, you just type “trades” in the “Search Services” function,  then type in the “Search Locations”  where you live. The programs that are available in your area will come up. It is fantastic what programs appear before your eyes!

The best part of this feature, you just click on the program that is of interest to you, and all the information regarding that program is right there.

If you are just wanting to find out the different programs which are offered, you can also scroll down and look through the lists on the Programs page. So easy...

An amazing program called Job Options is also a very useful tool to use when you are a job seeker. This program offers so much – life skills to help you through your job search, help with job search and skills training if required, as well as an option to participate in a part of a job club which is an amazing resource to learn new tools from others and to network. It is also a great way meet new people. This program is comprehensive, and will certainly take you in the right direction.

Whatever the case may be and whatever challenges you are facing...just know that you don’t fall through the cracks…and if you are unemployed, and not collecting Employment Insurance. you too have the ability to access programs and services.

Glad to know there's stuff to support the non EI people out there.
