Breaking News! Important Information Regarding the Job Bank.

July 30, 2012 0 Comments

As of August 1st 2012, the Federal Job Bank in British Columbia will be no more.  If you’re an employer who is looking to post jobs in BC you will now have to use WorkBC.  The Job Bank will still exist in its current form, but if you are posting jobs in BC you will no longer be able to post on Job Bank.  Therefore, with that in mind, let us be the first to welcome you to WorkBC!

When you first arrive at our website you may be slightly overwhelmed with the new layout and job-posting process, but don’t despair because it’s really quite simple to find and post jobs.  Just follow the steps below and we’ll try to make this transition as smooth as possible.

Job Seekers

If you are a job seeker you can start searching for jobs right away.

  1. Enter a keyword and location in the bar with the large red button that says Find Jobs.
  2. Click the button once you’ve entered your search terms and you’ll be taken to a page with a list of all of the available jobs related to your search.
  3. Click on a job to see its details and location.
  4. If you’re interested in the job look at the Apply To section on the right-hand side and respond using the method(s) the posting describes.

You may notice that some jobs have the WorkBC logo underneath them.  When you see this logo all it means is that the jobs are internal postings (they were posted on WorkBC).  Any jobs without the logo are external postings, meaning that they were originally posted on a different job-search engine.  You can still view these jobs, but you will be taken to a different website.

If you’d like to save jobs or receive email notifications all you have to do is sign up for a job-seeker account.  Just click the grey Sign in button on the top of the page and create an account to use these features.  For more information about job-seeker accounts click here.

Employers

If you’re an employer who is hoping to post on WorkBC, all you have to do is sign up for an employer account (slightly different than a job-seeker account).

  1. Click on the Post a Job button in the top right-hand corner.
  2. Enter in your Business Number into the empty field and fill out the captcha.  Click Continue.
  3. On the next page you will be asked to create your account.  Fill in your employer information, contact information, and address.
  4. Please read the terms of use and click the check box if you agree to the terms.  Click Continue.
  5. The next page will thank you for creating an account.  You will now be sent an email asking you to confirm your account details.
  6. After you open this email and verify your account you will be able to log in and start posting jobs.

IMPORTANT

In order to help ease your transition over to WorkBC, we have imported a large portion of employer accounts from Job Bank.  If you discover that your company is already registered on our website please follow these instructions.

  1. Click on Post a Job in the top right hand corner.
  2. Enter in your Business Number in the blank field and complete the captcha.
  3. When you are prompted that your company is already registered please enter your email into the blank field and click Reset.  You will then be sent a password reset request to the email you provided, which will allow you to login.
  4. If your email address is not found please click Register and fill out the required information.  After you have completed this step please contact us so we can validate your account.

Additional Information

If you are an employer with multiple companies please note that you will be required to have a separate email address and account for each company.

If your business has multiple locations you will be able to add additional locations by editing your employer profile.

  1. Please log in and go to your Workspace page (Grey button at the top).
  2. Click the Employer Profile button and then click the Edit Profile button.
  3. Under the map on this page you will see a link that says + Location.  Click this link and add an additional location.  Click Save.
  4. After your new location is saved you will be able to select it when you post a job.

Labour Market Opinion (LMO)

For employers looking to hire a foreign worker you must first apply for an LMO.  In the past, one of the requirements for an LMO was that you had to post a job on the Job Bank for a minimum of two weeks.  This requirement still exists, but instead of using the Job Bank, you must now use WorkBC.

We hope you enjoy using WorkBC.  In its creation we listened to a lot of public feedback and have tried to make a webpage that is faster and easier to use than the Job Bank.  We understand that this transition may not be easy for a lot of people and so we expect to receive a large volume of phone calls over the next few weeks.  If you need assistance please be patient with us.  We will try to respond to your requests as soon as possible.
