In B.C., human rights are protected by both federal and provincial laws. The provincial law is the B.C. Human Rights Code.
As an employer, you should be familiar with the Code. It sets out your responsibilities for making sure that your workplace is free from discrimination and harassment.
To learn more about the Human Rights Code in B.C. and how it applies to you as an employer, read the Human Rights in British Columbia employer guide. It will help you avoid discriminating when you advertise a job and find, interview and choose candidates.
See the Canadian Human Rights Commission website for tools and resources to assist employers in preventing discrimination in the workplace. The site includes information on employment equity and an employer’s duty to accommodate.
