Working with Employers

Does your work as an employment counsellor involve working directly with employers? Are you a co-operative education coordinator or human resources professional who deals with employers every day?

Employers may consult with you on how to effectively recruit and retain workers. You may approach an employer to create a job that doesn’t already exist, perhaps to take advantage of a particular client’s skill set. You may have a client who could perform well in a job setting with a period of coaching.

This section offers resources to help you forge connections between the employers and clients or students you serve.

If you’re an HR professional, use the Literacy and Essential Skills Toolkit to access a range of tools to help employers or your own organization. You’ll find organizational needs assessments, skill assessments for individuals and other HR tools.

Hiring and Retaining Skilled Immigrants: A Cultural Competence Toolkit helps HR practitioners and hiring managers reach, assess and integrate skilled immigrants into the workplace. Employment counsellors and job coaches can also use it when advising skilled immigrants and convincing employers of the advantages of a culturally diverse workforce.

Perhaps you provide supported employment services, coaching clients and employers to ensure successful outcomes. If so, you can benefit from the information, resources and annual conference offered by the Canadian Association for Supported Employment.
