Career Planning Resources
BC Work Futures features profiles of over 500 occupations and a number of B.C. industries. You’ll also find personal profiles of workers and articles on career planning.
What’s Key in LMI for BC presents selected career, learning and labour market information. It’s designed for career practitioners, young people and adult job seekers.
Education Planner’s Career Developer section provides access to a wide range of career development resources. Check out the Educators tab for lesson plans, handouts and activities.
You’ll also find career development training materials on the Canadian Career Development Foundation website.
Sector Resources
Some sector councils and associations have created lesson plans, activities and materials specifically for educators and counsellors.
For career information on trades, see the Industry Training Authority’s YES 2 IT Program. It’s designed to increase awareness of trades among students in grades 6 to 9.

- COMPASS: Setting Career Direction blog — Features news articles on career development and employment. Use the categories index for sectors and topics.
Annual Career Events
Annual events provide an opportunity to raise awareness of careers and the world of work.
- Skilled Trades Week in Canada — Raises awareness of skilled trades for parents, youth and the general public.
- Take Our Kids to Work Day — Grade 9 students are hosted by parents, relatives and volunteers at workplaces across the country. The program helps students connect school, work and their futures. Click on the Information tab for guides and promotional posters.
