Blueprint Privacy Policy
Introduction
The WorkBC website offers a variety of tools and resources designed to
help job seekers find jobs and employers find employees. The website
also disseminates labour market information and provides career exploration
tools and information to users.
WorkBC.ca is committed to protecting your privacy and any information that
is provided to us through the use of our site. The WorkBC website collects,
uses and discloses your personal information in accordance with the Freedom of
Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPPA) and
other applicable legislation. "Personal information" is defined broadly in
the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act as recorded
information about an identifiable individual, other than contact information.
The purpose of this privacy statement is to inform you of the personal
information that may be collected from you when you use Blueprint
Builder, and how that information may be used.
Scope
This privacy statement relates only to the information collected from you
as a result of using Blueprint Builder.
How is my personal information collected?
Blueprint Builder collects
information about your visit, including personal information used to create,
save and access your Blueprint profile. The tool also collects information in
the form of a cookie during your visit to the site. A cookie is a small file
stored on your computer by your web browser when you access the site. This is
discarded after your visit to the site has ended or you are inactive on the
website for 20 minutes.
Information is also collected through audit logs when you open the
activation email sent from the B.C. government after you have created your
Blueprint account.
What personal information is being collected?
The information collected is:
- the web browser and operating system you are using
- the date and time of the visit
- the pages or services accessed
- a cookie that includes the Internet Protocol (IP) network domain name
(e.g., shaw.ca, gmail.com) and address (e.g., 192.10.200.10) of the computer
you are using
- your email address
- your password
- the date and time you opened your profile activation email
- profile information to assist you in creating your personalized
Blueprint which includes:
- Name (nickname or pseudonym), e.g., Samantha
- Blueprint personalization information – if you are a female, an
Aboriginal person, a newcomer to B.C. or a person with a disability – used to produce tools and resources that match your selections
- Region – to present you with regional labour market
information
A cookie may remain on your computer after the Internet session finishes
(until the cookie expires or is deleted by you). The cookies will be
discarded from government servers after 20 minutes of inactivity.
The B.C. government collects personal information under the authority of
section 26(c) of FOIPPA for the purposes stated below.
What is the purpose for collecting my personal information and how will
it be used?
The B.C. government is collecting this personal information for the
purposes of creating and saving your personalized Blueprint and providing you
with access to tools and resources based on your personalized Blueprint
profile. By agreeing to the Privacy Policy, you are agreeing to allow the
site to collect your personal information and to send you a confirmation
email to activate your Blueprint profile.
Information collected from email audit logs is used to better understand
general usage of the follow-up email content. Personal information will only
be used by authorized staff to fulfil the purpose for which it was
originally collected or for a use consistent with that purpose, unless you
expressly consent to another use or uses.
Can I opt out of the collection of my personal information?
You may view and create your Blueprint without the collection of your
personal information. However, you will not be able to access or save the
Blueprint you have created after you leave the website, and you will not be provided
with suggested tools and resources based on your personalized profile.
What safeguards are in place to protect my personal information?
The Government of B.C. is obligated to protect your personal information
by making reasonable security arrangements against such risks as unauthorized
access, collection, use, disclosure or disposal. Specifically, access to
systems, applications and the collected data is restricted to authorized
personnel only. Furthermore, any personal information collected and used for
identifying user trends (for example, when users open the confirmation email)
is combined and made anonymous when reports are generated.
How long is information retained?
A cookie may remain on your computer after the Internet session finishes
(until the cookie expires or is deleted by you). The cookies will be
discarded from government servers after 20 minutes of inactivity.
Personal information collected from Blueprint Builder,
including names and email addresses, will be retained for two years in the government audit logs.
Information collected or created by the Government of B.C. is maintained in
accordance with government's records retention schedules and other legislative requirements.
How can I access and correct information I submit to a website?
You can review any personal information collected about you by requesting
access to it by the ministry holding the information, or by submitting a
Freedom of Information request. You may request changes or annotate your
personal information if you believe it to be inaccurate by submitting a
written request describing the error.
