Job Description
Louis Brier Jewish Aged Foundation
Working hours: 16-20 hours per week depending on volume of work. Salary is commensurate with experience.
Position Description:
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Foundation Accountant is responsible for the accounting and bookkeeping tasks related to the running of the Louis Brier Jewish Aged Foundation.
Responsibilities:
1. Day to Day Accounting Activities:
- Maintain general ledger accounts on a current basis
- Enter data from daily Raiser's Edge report (Batch Commit Control Report) into the accounting system
- Monthly bank reconciliations
- Complete cheque requisitions along with appropriate coding for approval and signatures, and produce cheques as required
- Attend to tax receipting processes
- Payables and Accounts Receivables
- Prepare GST rebate report and quarterly WCB remittances
- Liaise with Investment Committee
- Monitor bank accounts and assist expense projections and cash flow management
- Maintain up to date filing on all accounting and bookkeeping activities
2. Payroll and Employee Records:
- Prepare all bimonthly payroll information for processing by ADP, verify year end T4 information included in government remittances
- Employee benefits administration (Group benefits and MSP)
3. Financial Analysis:
- Prepare quarterly financial statements and investment performance report and analysis of variances
- Review financial reports with Treasurer and Executive Director and answer related questions
- Design and develop ad hoc analytical reports and queries required by Executive Director
- Continuously review and improve the financial reporting format used by the Foundation together with the Treasurer and E.D
4. Audit:
- Prepare accounting materials and worksheets for yearend audit and liaise with external auditors
5. Budget:
- Assist the E.D preparing annual budget and provide ongoing analysis of budget variances
6. Other:
- Attend weekly staff meeting

Requirements & Qualifications:
- Accounting or Finance Degree or related field/experience – CPA students are welcome
- Available immediately or on short notice
- Ability to allocate 2 days per week to this position
- Highly accurate data entry
- Numbers person
- Literacy with QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel
- Attention to detail
- Experience with MSOffice, Google suite, or other office application suite
- Experience with Raiser’s Edge preferred
- Experience with processing charitable donations following Canada Revenue Agency’s guidelines
- Excellent phone manner and comfortable interacting with people from all walks of life, including lay leaders and donors
- Experience with or sensitivity towards working in a confidential environment
- Ability to work independently to deadlines and to juggle multiple projects
- Ability to telework (computer, internet, phone)
