Trainee Subsurface Utility Surveyor

GeoScan Subsurface Surveys are currently looking for skilled and motivated individuals to fill the position of Trainee Subsurface Utility Surveyor. There are two positions of this type avaiable, one in Vancouver/Burnaby and the other in Victoria.

GeoScan Subsurface Surveys is the largest and most experienced provider of Ground Penetrating (GPR) services in Western Canada and is rapidly growing company based in the Vancouver/Burnaby area with an office in Victoria. Our services include Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) Surveys, Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Concrete Inspections, Utility Locating, Subsurface Utility Engineering and Shallow Geophysical Surveys.

The field work includes using a wide range of geophysical tools to image the underground environment, with an emphasis on detecting and mapping subsurface utilities. Office work would include desktop analysis, mapping and autocad drafting.

Minimum Requirements;

- Knowledge or interest of underground utility construction methods

- Valid driver's license

- Higher Education in a related subject or related work experience

- Strong Computer skills and software products; Expertise in AutoCAD and GPS a significant advantage

- Strong communication skills

- Mechanically adept, independent, strong ability to improvise and trouble shoot in the field, and flexible.

- Must be a team player, self-driven and responsible

- Ability to work in all weather conditions and out of hours, from time to time

Main Tasks & Accountabilities:

- Provide completed utility survey reports to the highest quality, in line with the company and industry standards, within the correct timescales and budget allocation.

- To work independently and part of a team of utility locators.

- To liaise and assist the Senior Subsurface Utility Surveyors

- Promote the Company Values and carryout your duties in a professional manner, with the ability to liaise clients and affected stakeholders confidently.

- Promote our “Safety First “approach in all aspects of your operations.

Optional (but not mandatory) Requirements:

- Experience with Geophysical Surveys and methods

- Experience with Land Surveying / Geomatics
