We are seeking a Certified Welding Inspector for our Surrey location.

Reporting to the Welding & Coatings Supervisor, the Welding Inspector is responsible for monitoring daily welding processes such as operator qualifications, adherence to procedures, inspection of finished welds to ensure they are free from defects and compliant with PPI and American Welding Society (AWS) standards.This is a hands on role and will include regular welding duties.

Responsibilities:

·         Develops and monitors visual inspections training procedures

·         Develops welder assessment training for new and existing employees to evaluate welder qualifications and provides ongoing training to ensure compliance with PPI and AWS welding standards

·         Administers AWS welder’s qualification test as required and requests welder re qualification if necessary.

·         Inspects joint preparation when required by work procedure

·         Performs visual weld inspections and provides written report on inspection results.

·         Reviews welding procedure requirements for contracts requiring AWS and ensures welders are following correct procedure.

·         Submits reports on all non conformance and corrective action as required

Required Experience, Education and Skills:

·         Certified Welder Inspector (CWI)

·         Level II Magnetic Particle & UT

·         Experience working in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment

·         Ability to interpret technical drawings

·         Good understanding of fundamentals of welding metallurgy, welding symbols and drawings.

·         Understands the fundamentals of MT, UT, PT, RT, LT quality procedures and quality audits/surveillance

·         Understands the fundamentals of SAW, GMAW, mechanical cutting, thermal cutting/gouging.

·         Knowledge of applied mathematics: fractions, decimals

·         Able to communicate effectively orally and written.

·         Safety oriented

·         Self- motivated; able to work independently with limited direction

·         High degree of resourcefulness, flexibility and adaptability.

·         Excellent problem solving and decision making skills
