Job Description

For the past 30 years, the Health Sciences Division (HSD) has been delivering paramedic and continuing medical education provincially, nationally, and internationally. HSD students range from first responders, paramedics, nurses, physicians, and allied health professionals. HSD is known as an innovator in many areas – from the use of simulation to the introduction of new professional programs based on the knowledge of applied research in Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and leading practice in patient care.

The Health Sciences Division is seeking a regular, full-time Lead Instructor, ACP Program at our New Westminster Campus.  Reporting to the Program Manager, ACP Program, as the Lead Instructor, you will be responsible for delivery of instruction to participants enrolled in the ACP Advanced Diploma program.  Additional information about the program can be found at: http://www.jibc.ca/programs-courses/schools-departments/school-health-community-social-justice/paramedic-academy/programs-and-courses/advanced-care-paramedic. ; This is a position for an individual who enjoys the challenge of working in an applied program and whose philosophy about teaching is consistent with those outlined in the JIBC’s Academic Plan.

We are looking for an outstanding candidate with a paramedicine background, a demonstrated commitment to Education (preferably through previous teaching at the post-secondary level), an interest and aptitude for leading and working in a highly collaborative team environment; and administrative competencies including supervision.

The ideal candidate will have a solid knowledge of concepts and practices associated with paramedicine, and the ability to teach across all courses within the ACP program.   Average teaching load per week when classes are in session is 21 – 24 hours per week.  When not involved in direct classroom instruction, this position also provides coordination and administrative leadership for educational aspects of the program and participates in scholarly activity and research as it relates to paramedicine.

The preferred candidate will have a Master’s Degree, or higher, in a relevant academic field (e.g. Health Sciences, Education, Clinical Practice); and recent (within five years) direct work experience in the field as an ACP (or higher) Paramedic   Ideally, you have completed JIBC INDC-1110 Essential Skills for Training and Facilitation course, or equivalent courses in Adult Education, and/or instructional design; and you also have familiarity with learning technologies and various models of supervision.
