Job Description

Aurora Scientific Corp. is a business provider of PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) vacuum coating service and equipment. We are looking for candidates to fill a full-time permanent Coatings Chemist position (NOC 2112).

Position:          Coatings Chemist - NOC 2112

Term/Status:   Permanent/Full time

Salary: CAD $33.85 per hour

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Coatings Chemist will support daily operations and execute projects related to hard coating development by PVD coating process.

·         Analyze, modify, characterize chemical compounds and electrochemical properties of thin films

·         Conduct studies on the properties and characteristics of coating thin films, and develop, refine, evaluate new coating process, and implement process improvement plan

·         Conduct fundamental and applied research and analysis into the synthesis and decomposition of coating chemical compounds

·         Develop, design and optimize thin film hard coating and deposition processes with cathodic arc and magnetron sputtering processes

·         Develop and conduct programs of analysis to ensure quality control of thin film materials

·         Supervise and perform coating quality testing on thin film properties from production

·         Conduct failure analysis, investigate coating quality related issues, and generate NCR (non-conformance report) from coating processes

·         Perform troubleshooting of vacuum chambers and related production equipment associated with chemical analysis on the surface or compound of thin films

·         Co-ordinate production testing, monitor production process and equipment, and optimize pre-coating PVD coating, and post-coating production operations

·         Lead and participate in research and development projects working with materials engineers, scientists and other professionals

·         Supervise and provide PVD coating related training to co-op/intern students, technicians, engineers and other scientists

·         Maintain all work documents, quality and equipment records complied with ISO9001 standard for daily production and operations

·         Capable of analyzing crystal structure, composition and morphologies of coatings by using SEM/EDS, XRD, XPS and Raman instrument

·         Act as technical consultant in the field of PVD coating processing

·         Work with external vendors when necessary

·         Assist coating production team when necessary

 

Requirements:

·         A bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Metallurgical, Material Science Engineering or related Engineering disciplines

·         A master’s degree or doctorate in a related engineering discipline may be required

·         At least 2-year strong experience with PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) hard coating cathodic arc coating system operation and maintenance

·         Strong analytical and reasoning skills

·         Ability and desire to work in a team environment

·         Ability to speak and understand English for effective communications

·         Be fluent in use of MS Windows including word processing, spread sheet, electronic mail, project management and presentation software

Skills desired:

1.    Working knowledge of tooling, machining, gauges and proper use of equipment

2.    Knowledge and experience using sand blaster, hardness tester and ultrasonic cleaning system

3.    Good problem-solving skills
