Villa Cathay is undergoing capital redevelopment to become a modernized care environment.  Upon completion, VCCH will increase the care capacity by 50%.  We are looking for people who have the passion in making a positive impact to human dignity and the skills in facilitating and sustaining positive change to join our team. 

Within the context of a resident/client and family centered care model and in accordance with established vision and values of the organization, the Health Care Assistant(HCA) or Care Aide works under the functional direction of a Registered Nurse or other designate and in cooperation with interdisciplinary team members to assist in the delivery of client care. Following established care plans provides personal care; bathes, grooms, dresses, assists with meals and oral hygiene and performs nursing care duties as applicable. Responds to call bells/alarms. Observes and monitors clients’ progress, symptoms and behavioral changes and reports/records significant observations. Utilizes mechanical aides such as specialty beds, wheelchairs and stretchers to transport clients and provides assistance with lifting and/or transferring of clients following established lifting/safety techniques. Maintains a clean and safe environment for clients and staff. Performs other related duties as assigned.


Education & Experience

  • Grade 10 (including English 10). Graduation from a recognized Resident Care Attendant program or Health Care Assistant program.
  • Current registration with the BC Care Registry is required.
  • Basic First Aid Certificate
  • Recent experience in residential care facility preferred

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and proficiently both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to deal with others effectively and respectfully.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment (such as Patient Care Information Systems)
  • Recent experience in residential care facility preferred
  • Ability to speak Chinese is an asset

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.
