Reporting to the Chief Engineer, you will get the opportunity to support the operation and maintenance of a wide range of equipment critical to campus infrastructure. While operating the University’s power plant, bio energy plant and facilities infrastructure, you will ensure compliance with the Boiler Pressure Vessel Safety Regulations and Technical Safety BC. You will lead the response to all fire alarms, power outages and equipment failures to ensure the control and safety of occupants of the campus facilities.

In this role, you will keep moving, while getting to work in one of the finest facilities in the North. You will be performing maintenance rounds, troubleshooting process equipment, undertaking preventative maintenance, responding to fire alarms, operating our natural gas boilers and the bio energy plant. In cases where coverage is needed, you will have the opportunity to perform planned maintenance on process equipment such as the vertical feed screw, metering bin, pellet boiler, pumps, fans, motors and piping.
The successful candidate must possess a valid BC or Inter-Provincial 4th Class Power Engineering Certificate and a valid class 5 driver’s license. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. The ideal candidate would have 3+ years related experience, preferably in a Commercial/Institutional environment; knowledge of computerized building control and energy management systems; and a strong mechanical aptitude. Experience in water treatment/testing and HVAC systems is required.
In addition to the above requirements, the following are considered to be an asset:
· Experience in Bio-Energy plant operation and maintenance;
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
· The ability to work in a service-oriented team environment demonstrating flexibility, and a commitment to safety in a continuously changing setting.
As part of our casual pool of employees available on an on-call basis, you may be called in to assist during peak periods, vacation, or for sick leave coverage. The normal hours of work will require 12-hour shifts from 7:00am – 7:00pm and 7:00pm – 7:00am.
The rate for this position is $30.07 per hour.
