International Quest Engineering Ltd. (IQE) has an available opening for a well-rounded, articulate Junior/Intermediate Structural Engineer to join them at their Prince George, British Columbia location.

IQE specializes in structural and mechanical engineering for the wood products, mining and energy industries.

 

Job Description

This is a growth-oriented position with a variety of tasks ranging from working at a computer in the office to doing field work at a job site. The successful candidate will be responsible for structural designs related to the wood products, mining and material handling industries. Projects include new designs as well as modifications to existing structures. In this junior/intermediate engineering role the individual will be responsible for projects involving general civil engineering knowledge, concrete and pile foundation design, and steel and wood structural design. Additional duties may include providing applications expertise to the design team, liaising with internal engineering personnel and subcontractors, as well as involvement with site project management.

Responsibilities:

·       Perform structural design and analysis calculations using governing codes and standards, engineering formulas, software

·       Perform field activities such as perform field reviews and inspections, provide on-site assistance to tradespersons when required, produce field reports, observe and record existing field conditions, take and verify measurements within project area

·       Structural engineering plans, design, and layout

·       Structural project specifications

·       Structural engineering portion of project proposals

·       Structural engineering portion of project cost estimates

·       Provide sketches/concepts to designers for drawing production

·       Review/certify structural detail drawings

·       Act as Engineer of Record and as the designated client contact on projects appropriate to experience

·       Act as Coordinating Registered Professional on building projects - coordinate work with other disciplines such as architectural, mechanical, electrical, etc. (appropriate to experience)

·       Handle routine contract administration

·       Organize, draft, and coordinate technical documents

·       Improve in-house efficiency

·       Take an active interest in promoting the business interests of the company and pursue opportunities to improve or expand the services offered

Qualifications:

·       BSc/Engineering with a major in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering with principal focus in Structural Engineering

·       Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) eligible for registration as a professional engineer with EGBC and other provincial jurisdictions

·       4-10 years of structural engineering experience in the industrial / commercial field

·       Working knowledge of AutoCAD & one or more analysis software packages such as S-Frame

·       Works precisely and pays close attention to details

·       Good mechanical aptitude and knowledge is an asset

·       Ability/willingness to perform work in the field.

·       Ability to define and develop criteria and cost estimates for plant modifications and/or other projects

·       Ability to resolve minor issues with client or contractors that may arise in the course of a project

·       Excellent problem-solving skills

·       Excellent written and verbal communication skills

·       Ability to communicate effectively with various internal and external sources for the purposes of gathering and relaying information, resolving issues of concern, etc.
