Job Description

TITLE: Admissions Officer   


The Admissions Officer is responsible for responding to inquiries from potential students about various programs, providing counselling to help individuals clarify their employment goals and to identify the appropriate programs to meet these goals.  This position will include administrative tasks, such as scheduling and record keeping as well as assessing transcripts for articulation purposes. The Admissions Officer will interact with students directly through professional one-on-one appointments throughout the day and ensure that the College intake is handled effectively and with a high degree of accuracy.


Reports to the Registrar


Full-time (40 hours), permanent


The Employee will work 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday, 8:30AM-5:00PM


Metro Pointe Campus, Burnaby (working remotely for the time being)


  • Post-Secondary Education – minimum of Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum two to three years’ experience, preferentially in a post-secondary Registrar’s office, administrative experience in a related field may be considered   


  • Ability to explain and apply College, government, and departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication skills and ability to work with others; experience communicating with non-native English speakers is an asset
  • Superior proofreading and error checking capability
  • Intermediate proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to multi-task
  • Must be detail-oriented and be able to effectively handle deadlines
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
  • Ability to handle confidential material and situations with tact and discretion 
  • Familiarity with the BC Post-Secondary and Transfer System is considered an asset


  • Responding to inquiries from potential students, promoting the programs and services of the College
  • Interviewing potential students according to the College Admissions Presentation Structure to explore their background, interests and identify their individual career goals; advise on appropriate programs to meet their goals
  • Completing enrollment of new students including related paperwork and providing information on payment options and requirements, as outlined in the College Admissions Procedures document
  • Authenticating documentation submitted by students
  • Maintaining records to track and follow-up on potential students, providing motivation and encouragement as appropriate  
  • Filing and archiving student records
  • Ensuring that College policy and procedure are consistently applied and followed
  • Assisting students with admissions and/or registration-related appeals
  • Performing data entry with a high degree of accuracy using a database system
  • Other duties as assigned to support the objectives and purpose of the College
