Job Description

Reporting the Executive Director this position will be responsible for:

●      Manage the ongoing operation of HR services, HR policies, programs and HR systems in support of a performance focused culture

●      Implement strategies and processes that support organizational design and growth, and employee retention and development

●      Be responsible for the Union Collective Agreement including negotiations, labour relations and any union related activity

●      Provide a Strong understanding of BC Labour Standards, HR standards, and workplace legislation and their application to the workplace

●      Provide effective HR reporting and communication

●      Serve on the executive management team and assist and advise leadership and KWS employees on all HR processes and matters

●      The development, implementation and maintenance of employee and labour relations strategies including policies, programs and procedures to address the organization's HR requirements

●      The management of all compensation and benefit systems, programs, tools and communication requirements

●      The development and implementation of consistent recruitment and selection practices as well as establishing strategic recruitment partnerships

●      Consistent and WorkSafe BC compliant training and development activities to support organizational objectives

●      Maintaining the collective agreement on behalf of employers including negotiations, mediating, labour disputes, managing employee grievances and providing advice on all labour relation matters

●      Management of employee benefit programs and claims as well as the communication and management with benefit providers

●      Development and implementation of consistent Performance Management tools and practices including training for employees and Managers

●      Responsible for overseeing workforce planning and the provision of HR metrics and reporting

●      The maintenance of confidential HR information, reports and related systems

●      Participation in the development of the organization structure, reporting and culture to ensure a collaborative work environment

●      Management of the work, development and performance of any direct reports

●      Participation in regular meetings and initiatives with the Executive Director and Management Team, including providing regular organizational and Board reporting material


·        University degree in Human Resources or a related field

·        A current Chartered Professionals in Human Resources (CPHR) designation is considered an asset

·        Minimum of eight years’ progressive HR experience including supervisory experience

·        Knowledge of and exposure to a wide range of HR activities including: recruitment, compensation and benefits, performance management, employee development, organizational development and labour relations.

·        Understanding of the issue of Domestic Abuse and its impacts is an asset.

·        Experience working in a unionized environment would be an asset.

·        Excellent written and verbal communication skills including excellent presentation skills

·        Demonstrated Leadership skills with a proven record in the management of financial resources

·        Ability to exercise sound judgment within established policies as well as in unfamiliar situations
