Join a team of Oral and Maxillofacial surgeons providing comprehensive call coverage for Vancouver General Hospital along with management of medically complex patients in our outpatient dental clinic. The Department of Dentistry comprises a group of dedicated and collegial providers who provide 24/7 call coverage for the emergency centre along with providing ward consults and dental care both in the operating theatre and outpatient clinic setting. As a centre for tertiary care, we are also responsible for transfers of patients from across the province when local coverage is lacking.

Vancouver General Hospital is a fully accredited and equipped community hospital with over a 1,000 acute (and residential) care beds serving both the patients of Vancouver and from across the province. It has 21 operating rooms, 40 outpatient clinics and a single emergency department. The hospital has a wide range of medical services for the community including ICU, CCU and interventional radiology. Patients are supported by both social workers and dieticians.
VGH is also a teaching hospital that is part of the network of hospitals that supports the University of British Columbia undergraduate dental residency program. Many clinical services have rotations of dental students and residents. An academic appointment is encouraged.
What You’ll Do
Join a group of six Oral and Maxillofacial surgeons and develop a hospital practice alongside your own community based office work. On call services are provided in a 1 in 6 (or 1 in 7) rotation. You will be part of the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial surgery in the Department of Dentistry with a talented, dedicated and collegial group who work together to provide excellent patient care. Your role will include emergency consultations / surgical care – both elective and emergency, in patient care for trauma and infection patients and, in time, access to elective surgical time both at UBC and VGH. You will also be involved in the teaching of dental residents while on rotation at VGH.
Hours of work*: On Call Hours as above and Clinic Hours 8-5 1-2x/week
On-Call Hours*: 24 hour call shifts for 1 week blocks (rotation)
