Job Description

Reporting to the Communications and Marketing Manager, the Communications Coordinator promotes the St. Margaret’s School vision, programs, activities, and events. The role supports a communications strategy aligned with the school’s Strategic Plan and responsive to emerging needs and trends. Content creation is the Communications Coordinator’s core deliverable.

Job Duties

Writing

  • Write clear, concise and effective content for a variety of media including advertising, print, web and social media.
  • Provide proofreading and editorial expertise for a variety of written content.
  • Support school staff to develop engaging written content for the website, e-newsletter, social media and other communication channels.

Design & Production

  • Coordinate the production of a variety of strategic communication and marketing materials, including advertising, promotional materials, publications, and videos
  • Coordinate technical specifications for design projects to be outsourced
  • Oversee publication/print production schedules
  • Take photos/shoot video at school events

 Planning, Processes and Standards

  • Maintain and implement communications standards, templates, processes, and procedures
  • Maintain the school’s brand guidelines
  • Ensure consistency of graphic standards
  • Develop communication plans and materials to support and promote school events.
  • Support the philanthropy and development with writing and communications strategies

Web / Social

  • Maintain and update website
  • Coordinate a content calendar  
  • Manage the school profile on various external websites

Marketing

  • Support marketing initiatives
  • Coordinate photo and video shoots of campus, students, events and activities for marketing and promotional purposes.
  • Produce electronic artwork for school advertisements

Public Relations

  • Identify opportunities to highlight the successes of the school
  • Identify school news and events of interest to the media and pitch stories
  • Support community engagement events

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant field coupled with more than two years’ professional communications experience (equivalent education will be considered)
  • Advanced writing skills
  • Experience with web content management systems
  • Experience managing social media channels
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Ability to set strategic priorities, identify plans of action and meet deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills
  • Facility with Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft applications
  • Some photography experience is an asset

Work Conditions

  • The work schedule may include evening and weekend activities/duties
  • Busy office setting, fast-paced environment
  • Intermittent physical activity including walking, standing, sitting, and lifting
