The Development Services Department is responsible for overseeing land development processes within the City of Courtenay. The department is comprised of the following three divisions: the Planning Division, the Building Division, the Subdivision & Developmental Division.
Reporting to the Manager, Building and Administrative Services, the Building Inspector 3 reviews building and plumbing permit applications, and issues permits. This position inspects and approves plans and drawings pertaining to the development, construction, and renovation of major projects. The Building Inspector 3 conducts on-site inspections of properties, new construction, and renovations; and, reviews liquor and business licenses applications, inspects business premises, and issues licenses and permits. The Building Inspector provides information and technical advice to the public and other City departments, preparing related reporting and documentation.
The ideal candidate will be a member (or eligible member) with the Building Officials Association of BC with BC Inspector Certifications for Building Level 3 and Plumbing Level 1. The ideal candidate will have relevant post-secondary education with current working knowledge of all appropriate bylaws, codes, legislation. The ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team. A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and Criminal Record Check is required.
