Marine – Industrial

B.C.’s industrial marine sector is being noticed provincially, nationally and around the globe. With its broad and diverse capacities and capabilities, it is a key component of the advanced manufacturing sector. Shipyards, boatyards, marine repair facilities, fleet owners, ocean and marine technology companies, manufacturers and more make up B.C.’s industrial marine sector.

The sector contributes to economic development from Seaspan’s anticipated National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS) contracts and BC Ferries’ capital asset replacement and mid-life upgrades. Other goods and services range from ship repair, ocean technology, component manufacturing and professional services.

With an estimated $10 billion in new investment, shipbuilding, ship repair, and industrial marine sector growth is a key part of the B.C. economy. The industrial marine sector consists of hundreds of companies that range in size from single person owner/operators to having over 1,500 employees.
