John, Level II Electrical Apprentice, Vernon, B.C.
VERNON – John had worked in the hospitality industry for years but was drawn to the electrical trades and wanted to make a career switch. Getting in touch with his local WorkBC Employment Services Centre in Vernon, John started working toward becoming a Red Seal Electrician with help from a case manager. He received funding from the WorkBC centre for skills training, including living supports, tuitions and books, and soon found himself enrolled in the Pre-Electrician Apprenticeship program at Okanagan College-Vernon. Having completed two apprenticeships, John is half-way through his Electrician Apprenticeship requirements and is hoping to continue on with his next level of schooling. At the pace he’s going, he may even finish early and he’s eager to join the workforce.
