Karen – WorkBC New Westminster/Fraser Works Coop – Immigrant

3 August 2016
Karen has tried to look for long term work since 2006. Although she was able to find a few full-time jobs, they did not last. In 2014, Karen decided to run her own business, but she did not know how to start with the setup. She came in to the New Westminster WorkBC Employment Services Centre and was referred to the Self Employment Program at Douglas College. After passing all the interviews and required assessments, Karen was accepted into the Self Employment Program starting in October 2014. Karen stated that she has learned a lot from the Program and has successfully set up her own travel agency business with a decent income even before she finished the Self Employment Program. With her outstanding performance, Karen was happy to learn that she has been nominated and eventually become a finalist at the Entrepreneur of the Year Awards held in October 2015.
