John – Vernon WorkBC ESC – Apprentice

John needed to change careers and came to the WorkBC Employment Services Centre in Vernon. He worked in the hospitality industry for years and had the opportunity to complete some electrical work in the establishment he managed under the supervision of a Red Seal Electrician. John discovered that he really enjoyed the trade.

John worked hard gathering all the research necessary to support a funding request for skills training. In August of 2013, John began training in the Pre-Apprentice Electrician program at Okanagan College, Vernon campus. He completed his training by January 2014 and was hired as an Apprentice Electrician in April 2014.  As of June 2014, John completed all his 1st year hours and works towards completing his apprenticeship training as it is arranged with his employer and the school.

As of Spring 2015, John is going back to complete his level II apprenticeship training and is half way through his apprenticeship!
