The StrongerBC future skills grant is an opportunity to drive your career forward.

Since its launch in 2023, more than 10,000 people living in British Columbia (B.C.) have accessed funded training and upskilling opportunities in multiple high-demand sectors. If you have been considering a career change or are looking to improve your job-ready skills, this might be the right opportunity for growth.

Open to anyone aged 19 or older, it covers up to $3,500 for eligible short-term skills training at select public post-secondary institutions. It provides equal access to skills training for people in urban and rural communities, supporting learning across every economic region in the province.

The future skills grant supports key industries, sectors and government economic priorities by providing individuals in or entering the workforce with access to in-demand skills training. This year’s funding will focus on programs and courses in the following six areas:

  • Health care
  • Clean energy
  • Construction
  • Mining
  • Marine transportation
  • Inclusive economy

Is it important to upskill?

Upskilling is an opportunity to expand professional capabilities and improve on-the-job performance. Learning new skills or improving upon existing ones is essential for career growth. Check out Skills for the Future Workforce to learn more about the type of skills that are useful in the emerging and future job market. It is also important to note that not all skills trainings are lengthy. These micro-credentials can play an important role in your future career success by teaching you a specific skill within a short time frame.
